This Cherry Berry Mega Protein Smoothie is a healthy post workout treat with 34 grams of protein without using any powders and uses a secret ingredient to make this smoothie extra thick and creamy!
We have been over my love of smoothies right? I mean who wouldn’t love a big ol’ glass of cold goodness…even better if it is actually good for you! I used to think all smoothies were created equal. My naive self would pack on the fruit, sugar loaded orange juice and even add ice cream sometimes. Then I would plop myself down on the couch slurping away, all while thinking what a champ I was at this whole healthy thing.
2 hours and 267325 grams of carbs later, I would head back into the pantry for some healthy snacks… salty pretzels, veggie chips by the bag and of course there were the days that I would eat giant bags of trail mix filled with chocolate chips and dried fruit laden with sugar. Like I said, health food.
Well thank God Nick walked into my life and taught me a few things about protein. Protein is GOOD for you and your body needs it! I am trying to take these muscles from miniscule to minor! Protein is definitely needed! But despite popular belief, there are lots of ways to get protein besides meat! Who knew? Certainly, not little Mariah 3 years ago.
My smoothies have long since received a makeover. Which is why I was so excited to participate in Chobani’s smoothie week! I eat a greek yogurt every single day and Stella joins in right along with me. I love that it has no fat, is low in calories and has a substantial amount of protein to keep me full between meals. So naturally the base of this Cherry Berry Maga Protein Smoothie started with a cup of Chobani’s Non Fat Vanilla Greek Yogurt, 22 grams of protein in just 1 cup of yogurt! I love that Chobani is all natural and has about 40% less sugar than other yogurts. That is just the beginning of the protein goodness in this smoothie. Are you ready for the secret ingredient to these protein smoothies? Cottage cheese! Yes, I know what you are thinking, Mariah have you lost it?! But just bare with me here. Cottage cheese offers 12 grams of protein per 1/2 cup and once it is blended in a smoothie, you can’t even taste it! That is 34 grams of protein in one smoothie.
Add in a few berries, some cherries and 1/2 a frozen banana and you have lots of protein goodness without a protein powder in sight! For a little extra twist on this smoothie, I add in a little bit of vanilla extract. I absolutely love the flavor it gives. I give this smoothie to Stella on days when she won’t eat anything. It seriously is the best! For extra protein goodness add in a tablespoon of chia seeds!
