Filled with nutrient packed fruits and vegetables, this low calorie Super Green Apple Smoothie is the perfect way to start off your morning.
I hope you all are enjoying the start of 2016. I know that I am. The new year always brings a big wave of excitement for me. It is a time for reflection of all the things 2015 brought and also for changes in the new year.
2015 was a big year for me. It was during the very beginning of last year that I started this little blog of mine and it has led me to so many amazing opportunities. I am so grateful for all the incredible friendships I made and for how much this little space of mine has grown.
After the holidays I am always trying to detox from all the yummy food and treats I indulged in. Finding balance again isn’t easy but it is something I have committed to this year. I really want to dial in on my health and fitness goals as I am sure you do as well.
Change isn’t always the easiest thing though, so sometimes starting out small is the best place to start. I have been doing a lot of nutritional research and have started making some healthy swaps. Starting with this Super Green Apple Smoothie!
It is filled with lots of low calorie superfoods that pack a big nutritional punch. First off is kale, which is packed with lots of vitamins and is one of the most nutrient dense foods in the world. Spinach for its iron properties.
For sweetness, I used tart Granny Smith Green Apples and Kiwi fruit. To thicken the smoothie I used a half of a frozen banana. The base is my favorite Unsweetened Almond Milk from Blue Diamond Almond Breeze. It is only 40 calories per serving with almost no carbs and very little fat. I often use their Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk flavor as well. They are a great alternative to milk and for those looking to keep their diets dairy free.
This breakfast Super Green Apple Smoothie is a keeper for sure.
